MUIS partners with NIE to boost teaching quality in both full-time and part-time madrasahs
9 April 2025
MUIS completes first professional development programme for part-time madrasah teachers.
1. The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has achieved a significant milestone with the inaugural completion of professional development programme for part-time madrasah teachers, delivered in collaboration with the National Institute of Education International (NIEI). This pioneering initiative builds upon MUIS's established training programme for full-time madrasah teachers, which has already benefited six cohorts, and represents a major advancement in supporting professional growth across Singapore's Islamic education sector.
2. This partnership aims to elevate the quality of madrasah education through comprehensive teacher training and practical classroom applications, enabling teachers to adopt modern teaching methodologies that resonate with current educational standards while maintaining the authenticity of Islamic education.
Specialist Diploma in Teaching and Learning
3. Twenty-six full-time madrasah teachers were enrolled in the Specialist Diploma in Teaching and Learning. This programme provides teachers with deep pedagogical insights, preparing them to deliver high-quality instruction that meets both religious and secular educational needs. It runs alongside their teaching duties and includes:
Six core modules on teaching methods
Learning journey to two national schools to observe different teaching approaches
A practicum under the guidance of NIE professors
Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Community Educators
4. Eighteen full-time teachers from Islamic Learning Hub and Management Office (ILHAM) completed the Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Community Educators. This programme features five core modules designed specifically for teaching in the part-time madrasahs.
5. Through NIEI's expertise in teacher development, madrasah educators will gain advanced skills to enhance their students' learning journey. This strategic partnership reflects Singapore's broader commitment to strengthening the teaching profession and championing lifelong learning across all educational sectors, including Islamic education.
6. Yesterday, the graduates from the two programmes celebrated their achievements at a graduation ceremony.
