Zakat Fitrah rates for Ramadan 1446H/2025
28 February 2025
This year's rates are S$5.00 (normal rate) and S$7.90 (higher rate) per person.
1. The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) stipulates that the Zakat Fitrah rates for Ramadan 1446H/2025 are S$5.00 (normal rate) and S$7.90 (higher rate) per person.
2. Zakat Fitrah, an obligatory contribution for all Muslims during Ramadan, is determined by the MUIS Fitrah Committee1 based on the country's staple food, rice. The rates are derived from the median price of 2.3kg of rice in two grades — normal and higher2 — as generally consumed by the local Muslim community.
3. MUIS introduced the two-tier Zakat Fitrah rate in 2005 to accommodate Muslims who wish to contribute more than the normal rate, particularly those who consume higher-grade or premium rice. Contributors may choose the rate that best aligns with their daily consumption. This careful approach ensures that all Muslims can fulfil their religious obligations while effectively supporting those in need within the community.
4. In establishing this year's rates, the committee conducted comprehensive checks on rice prices from November 2024 to January 2025. While normal-grade rice prices remained stable, higher-grade rice prices saw a significant increase of over 3%.
5. To reflect current market conditions, the committee has maintained the normal Zakat Fitrah rate while adjusting the higher rate for premium rice options. This balanced approach ensures market fairness while enabling Muslims to fulfil their religious obligation according to their rice consumption preferences.
6. Zakat Fitrah must be fulfilled during the month of Ramadan and before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri prayers. Muslims are advised to fulfil their Zakat Fitrah obligation well in advance to avoid congestion at physical Zakat counters or high online traffic periods, ensuring successful completion within the stipulated period.
7. MUIS encourages the public to make their Zakat contributions through official and authorised channels appointed by the Council. These include the Zakat Singapore website (www.zakat.sg) and our extensive network of Amil or authorised collection centres. For a comprehensive list of these centres, visit the Zakat website (www.zakat.sg/locations) or refer to the attached Annex A. By using these verified channels, contributors can ensure the security of their transactions and the proper allocation of their contributions to all eight asnaf (categories of Zakat recipients).
More Self-Service Kiosks Deployed for Zakat Contributions
8. As part of ongoing efforts to facilitate the Muslim community in adopting digital solutions, MUIS is expanding its Self-Service Kiosk initiative to 13 more mosques, bringing the total to 49 locations. This expansion more than triples the availability of kiosks since the 2023 pilot in 16 mosques.
9. The self-service kiosks at mosques allow congregants to make digital payments using their debit cards for various religious obligations. These include Zakat Harta, Zakat Fitrah, fidyah, and kaffarah payments, as well as donations to mosques (OurMasjid.SG), madrasahs (OurMadrasah.SG), and Wakaf Masyarakat Singapura (WMS). For kiosk locations, please refer to Annex B or visit the Zakat website. (www.zakat.sg/locations).
Other Digital Payment Modes
10. MUIS has made religious contributions more convenient through online platforms and self-service kiosks, offering flexible payment options and round-the-clock accessibility. These digital methods carry the same spiritual significance as in-person contributions, seamlessly aligning modern technology with our religious obligations.
