Appointment of Chairpersons for Singapore College Islamic Studies' Board of Governors and Advisory Panel

1. Following the announcement by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the M3 Forum on 10 November, Muis has announced the establishment of Singapore College of Islamic Studies’ (SCIS) Board of Governors (BOG), which will lead the strategic oversight of the college. The BOG will steer the college towards its mission and vision, maintaining its integrity, ensuring compliance, and ensuring its sustainability in pursuit of the college’s educational and research goals.

2.         Mr Abdullah Tarmugi has been appointed as Chairperson of the BOG. On his appointment, Mr Abdullah said: “I am deeply honoured to help strengthen Islamic education in Singapore. Together with our BOG and their thoughtful guidance on governance and academic standards, we will build on Singapore’s educational excellence in Islamic Studies. I look forward to working hand-in-hand with the BOG and the dedicated SCIS team to create enriching learning journeys for our asatizah. Our shared vision is to nurture religious scholarship that resonates with contemporary challenges, strengthen our community’s religious resilience, and contributing meaningfully to the future of religious leadership and the vibrant socio-religious life of Muslims in Singapore.”

3.         In addition, Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Mr Masagos Zulkifli will be the Chairperson of the Advisory Panel. He will lead nine other members in the Advisory Panel (Annex A), which comprises esteemed leaders from local and international institutions. The panel will focus on providing insights on international research opportunities and educational developments that align with the needs of SCIS and the Singapore Muslim community.
